It hasn't warranted a fix yet from me, but definitely a silly design problem. Mine was manufactured in Octoberish 2012 and I hypothesized they ran out of the right parts since no one else has complained.

I noticed it when doing adjustments on surface hieght. never printed anything that wide yet luckily. the screws are like twice as long as needed and protrude way in from both sides. no room for this already in that area.
