You can print on the bed, but you might have trouble with it sticking too well. I think your best bet would be to print on blue painters tape. It sticks well' but you can still remove the parts.

New printer from Santa today. (SD2 Basic)  Got it working, I think.  Before I go farther, my print bed is about 3/8 clear acrylic with a cross-hatch.  Most all I've read, and seen pics of in the last month or so shows the heat beds with Kapton tape on it, seems to be both heated and not. 
Do I print on the acrylic, or get something else.
Looking forward to a lengthy relationship with this little contraption, but gotta get started.
