For smoothing SMALLER parts, I drop the part into a paint bucket with some acetone. I lower the part with earlier said aluminum risers and close the lid. To speed up the process, I put it in my bathroom sink, heat the water to the hottest, then close the drain and let the water rise until the moment the paint can starts to float. I then weight it down (with a French onion dip jar with some ABS slurry) so the parts do not fall into the acetone.
Said parts are: Lawsy's cable chain, mk4/5 extruders, Boz's E3D extruder, anti-backlash brackets, Y axis pillow brackets, and even personal designs.

While I take 45 minutes so hot water vapor smooth SD filament, an mk5 I received so graciously from wardjr took less than 30 minutes of room temp smoothing with Octave filament.
I'm just trying to drive home the difference of brand of filament, and even the batch makes a difference.
