The software which can be used on Solidoodle is the same as that which the RepRaps use. Upgrading to dual extruders will be easier on a RepRap, although the active community here on the forms has done it to a Solidoodle too. I personally think that the Solidoodle looks much better than most RepRap machines. Overall, they are both decent printers for the money. I ended up choosing a Solidoodle because of this forum. There are solutions to almost every problem out there and mods to improve print quality. If you do end up going with a Solidoodle, make sure you get one with a heated bed. Many people sell RepRap plastic parts online, and some kits come with them.

I've been looking at getting a 3D printer for a while now. I was gonna build one from scratch but decided to go for a kit or pre-built one. I'd like to keep the cost down but have a useable printer to get my feet wet on (soft ware......). but also want to be able to upgrade to maybe a 2nd extruder and/ or larger size. I'd be using mainly ABS. I'm mechanically and electrically competent and like modifying things, so I've been looking at the sd2 and sd3 right now. I was looking at the RepRap starter set for a complete electrical package, but was worried about what software I could get:( and their complete Kit didn't include the plastic parts which I couldn't find where to get? Any other choices please let me know or of any drawbacks I may in-counter.
