The guide works fine, until the filament accumulates on the floor and then it starts to tug the fresh flexible stuff out of the nozzle to one side or the other, then it "derails" and gets stuck to the mouth of the machine and makes a mess. I tend to find, like Laird, that the machine works best when pointed at a downward angle. Presently mine is at about 15 degrees and it makes a big difference in the evenness of the extrusion. Machine is presently 110cm above the floor on a workbench.

Just been thinking about this, to keep the filament straight, but have not tried it yet because I do not have a fishing pole. I am thinking that just a half of a normal fishing pole, with the line guides, might work nicely to keep the filament straight and guide it out of the machine long enough for it to cool fairly straight, after which you can let it just go wherever it wants. If anyone has tried this, or has a pole they can try... just brainstorming. Maybe I'll go buy a cheap one this weekend and give it a shot.
