Thanks for the replies.

I will try calibration in my coming vacation.
But I am wondering is that the problem? I mean the rest of the print – in solidoodle 3- is good with the exception of the first layer. I thought it could be some options in slic3r. Maybe it is adding extra layers.

Can someone share the slic3r profile(s) to get good result?
It will be also good to have the gcode -and picture?- of some flat object, so I can try it and compare the results.

Generally, slic3r will overextrude the first layer in order to allow it to stick better. This can be changed in slic3r configuration. Note mine is at 150%; you can change that to .42 (or 100%).

Hi,

I have printed a few nice things and I am excited about 3d printing.
I wish there was a comprehensive guide to get nice printing from beginners to experts. Like the options in the slicer. When to use support, raft,…? What parameters to enter for that?

Anyway, my post is mainly about the first layer.
Generally, thing sticks to the heated bed and print ok. However, I do not usually like the first layer. It is not smooth and flat. I do not really know whether the bottom layer is the first actual layer or is it added by slic3r. I searched for this problem but did not find what I need.

How to get a beautiful first layer like the last one? What option in slic3r and repetier should I use?
