3D printers are like the PC was in the 90's. Always something new coming out, better cheaper and such. Some good, some bad. All I can say is do your research. Just know that no matter what you get, you will have to tweak it for best results.

TacoBeast wrote:

I forgot to mention that they posted a print on the oneup of a 50 micron print, is this something that a solidoodle can do reliably?

After calibration and using good filament, yes.

Opinions? My Solidoodle is stock and runs good with good filament. Others have had less luck. Also, I had no expectations of plugging this in first day and having perfect prints.

That kickstarter is hard for people to have an opinion on. One growing norm for kickstarter is that 3D Printers are popping up like weeds on Kickstarter. The problem is it is a breeding ground for crap products. Someone on the reprap forums had a good take on it:

KS lets you advertise and promise whatever you want. "My printer is faster, better, cooler, goes to 10 microns, and is the cheapest one yet because I have CNC equipment and Chinese backers for hardware". After I get half million dollars, I then figure out how to cheapen the quality of the product to make the profit. I promise a schedule that I dont actually have to keep. There is no 'money back'. If the final product barely prints at 0.3mm layer hieght, I have succeeded.

Its a jaded point of view, but in reality its the trend that is happening.

That said, the Qu-BD company has a reputation in the 3D market, and they plan to keep it positive. They also have the equipment in-house to make thier product hit the price goal. But will it have problems after release? Who knows? Its a gamble you need to make.

I am in the market for a 3D printer and I am really trying to decide between the Oneup on Kickstarter and the Printrbot Simple or perhaps a used Solidoodle, even though it is a bit out of my price range. Can someone go over the pros and cons for each one and/or tell me if it is worth saving up for a Solidoodle? Thx!
