I have a model like that of myself that I use to bang my own head on the desk when I do things like I did last night which was to scale a print by 24.4 to convert inches to millimeters and running the 4 hour job. Doh! The 4 and the 5 key are too damn close together if you ask me.

Check their support forums to see if anyone else with your card is having trouble. My Radeon 7850 was on Reconstructme's list of cards that work well but support for that series of card was broken for months. They only recently claim to have fixed this. That's what led me to Kinectfusion which is free and works well enough for me.

I am using an old ASUS G75 I7 and it has an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660M.

I upgraded my laptop to get one with a compatible GPU but at first it didn't work as I hadn't updated my graphics drivers.

All good after that so perhaps something to try.

If you're just looking to try things out, Kinect Fusion is part of the Kinect SDK, works with the Windows or XBox version and is free. I've had good success with it though you have to use other tools to clean your scan and make it water tight.

As far as I know, yes, that is a commercial option and there are others, that was the easy button for me, there may even be open source options since the "math" is probably all the same.

Short answer, yes.

I had the Kinect that I got not as part of the bundle so it has the new plug and came with the power adapter USB splitter thing. I pulled the Kinect windows SDK and dev tools and laid them on before the other software just for good measure.

I have heard the Kinect for windows is even better hardware than what they sell for the console, not sure about all of that or the details.

Yeah, I usually see a problem on the shadow areas but for what I do it's more of just a toy to play with...

The software has a recording timer that I set for about 30 seconds then I kicked myself around in a circle about four times.

To get great results I think you have to do it like Fredini does it and also have the sensor move up and down on a track at the same time you spin so you do not end up with holes in the mesh on the top of your head or under your chin.
