He did say the bearing is stuck when he swings the arm out. This is not something to do with the tooth pulley. Those bearings are rated for alot more pressure than the SD can put out with a couple of weak springs. If that bearing cannot move by hand, it is busted plain and simple. Granted, if he wiggles it back and forth to free it up temporarily, it is not fixed. These bearings cost anywhere from $0.30 to $3.00 depending on where you get them. Just replace it.

It does turn by hand By I have caught it at times where the bearing it self was stuck but that was while it was still in the swing arm (I had the swing arm swung out so I could move the bearing.) Could it be the washers beside the bearing causing problems? Should I grease them? It seems to happen only while extruding. Retracting so far has always worked. The gears are free of filament I cleaned them several times while troubleshooting this. Can I order this bearing from solidoodle or Amazon?

I took the wing arm off and removed the bearing and I readjusted everything even following the suggestions on the FAQ page and it still randomly seizes. I tried for about 2 hours last night adjusting tension tightening screws and loosening them with no luck. I even tried packing the bearing with lithium grease. I may order a new one to if it that will fix the problem.

Hi Petra, have you tried loosening the screw that goes through the center of the bearing just a tiny bit so there is just the slightest amount of sideplay on the bearing? As for the bearing, if it is actually seizing up then it should be replaced.... that bearing should easily be able to take any amount of force you could possibly put on it with the acrylic holder setup and the plastic parts will fail long before the bearing would even get close to having a problem.... so either the bearing got something in it during manufacture of the printer like (superglue/threadlocker...) or it is just defective from the factory... wouldn't be the first

It does look like a tension issue now. I haven't found the right tension but it appears when I tighten or loosen the bearing it will start rolling again. What's frustrating is that it finished a 6 hour really nice print 2 days ago. When I came in the next day to print another piece that's when it started being crazy.

You may have the tensioner arm too tight if you are binding the bearing. The spring should not be fully compressed.

that clicking sound is the extruder motor skipping due to high resistance. You might want to check that the washers next to the bearing aren't impeding movement.

The first time it did it I pulled the swing arm out and tried to move the roller it was actually stuck. I was able to free it with a little pressure and then it started moving freely again. When it seizes, it makes a clicking noise. If I kill the job I can usually retract the filament by pulling on the filament while pushing the retract button. Then it will print fine for awhile.

I've having some trouble with the swing arm bearing. The toothed filament gear is working but randomly the swing arm bearing will just seize up. I've taken it out and cleaned filament dust off and then I tried applying some lithium grease where I could in the bearing itself. It is still randomly seizing up. When it stops the printer continues and I get binding issues. Anyone ever experienced this?
