to do calibration of the heat. ABS from different batches, manufacturers, colours, age etc etc will all have different properties so it makes sense to get it right for each one.
As a rule of thumb I set my extruder temp on my SD3 to 195C for ABS to start, but the last two filaments I have found printed best at 200C
(evidently this is the equivalent of 230C ACTUAL temperature. So dont set your temp too high.)

Have you done a test with that particular filament to find the strongest bond? I print a 'heat test' object at varying temperatures for every filament I use.
Currently using a green filament. I wasn't sure if the file was flawed hence why maybe it was missing some inbetween layers or something. The Pen Holder file appeared to have needed manifolds through NetFab. Not sure if I ran the beach girl through it as well.
