The error Gomisan got has nothing to do with security, it's related to the application not being 64bit compatible.

The Arduino drivers he downloaded on the other hand, have a 64bit compliant serial driver. For those that are concerned about running an "unknown" app, they can also install the drivers manually, by simply clicking on update driver, browse computer, then pointing to the driver folder. Windows will install the driver without the need for the installer app.

Besides if you're running an anti-virus program, it should warn you of any unauthorized access to your data.

I'm concerned about this....
* Just because no one "sees" a security problem with their computer, doesn't mean that there isn't one.

Definition of serial ports from wikipedia:
"In computing, a serial port is a serial communication physical interface through which information transfers in or out one bit at a time (in contrast to a parallel port).[1] Throughout most of the history of personal computers, data was transferred through serial ports to devices such as modems, terminals and various peripherals...."

So, who the hell knows if this thing program for it, AND it doesn't appear in my installed programs list.

Any computer people in here who can give us more background and assurance as to what this driver is doing? Why isn't it a standard Arduino driver, which I assume has been more thoroughly worked through?? Maybe we are all getting hacked and don't know it. If not giving outside 2 way access to my internet connection, it seems it should have at least enabled my laptop to immediately engaged and (perhaps "handshake"?) with any board like this which is simply pluged into my computer.

Many of us are engineers, and we use this thing for work. And, as we all know, a lot of engineering stuff has been stolen from us lately in the U.S....

Any (non-smartass) feedback/information anyone?

-Aron

Well... I found a fix, but nothing that was really mentioned here.

I went to Arduino, here: http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

downloaded the Arduino v1.05 Windows Installer, installed it fully, and then used the Ardiuno serial port driver. This worked and now I can communicate with my SD3!

I hope this helps someone else.
