I second that. Just received my SD3 last week. Do the extruder calibration where you measure 100mm from the top of the extruder assemby and mark it. Then manually tell it to extrude 100mm. Measure the difference and then scale back the extruder steps per mm in the EEPROM.

Then, measure the filament and do the test print where you have 1 perimeter and zero infill. I had the exact same symptoms. Too much extrusion and the nozzle was ruiding over the previous layer like speed bumps.

It's more likely that your extruder calibration is pushing too much plastic; see the video linked from this wiki article for calibration of the extruder.

A lot more useful information is on that wiki, and there are also various useful calibrations listed at the Solidoodle company wiki here.

If I print things on my SD3 that are relatively flat, they come out okay. If I try to print anything tall. it's almost as if the extruder is banging the layer before, which knocks the object over.

Do I need to calibrate how far each turn of the Z control shaft moves the bed? Is this sometime I should be changing with a setting inside Repetier?
