The black strapping material is generally a bit thicker which should definitely help. This blue stuff came with my dishwasher (oh the things you hang onto knowing they will come in handy one day), and I figured it wasn't the first time a little blue fixed was used for a case of the floppies.
Worth noting that pinching the strap down under the spool holder adds a slight twist to the strap which makes the bundle lift up. This was needed in my case to overcome the weight of the cables. You might not find it is an issue with the black strapping. Best to work out your own angle.

Good idea! I made the cable chain. It sagged. I was angry..... I will try this.

This is a cool idea. I have the same "sagging" problem, and I'm sure that I can find some of these straps in the warehouse. Most of the ones I've seen around are black, but then who cares about the color, right...

sweet sucks cause i dot work in a factory anymore i dont have access to those straps anymore . brilliant idea though

Not that you can see much, but here are the photos. It's worth putting a radius on the end of the strap so that the corners don't catch as you are trying to feed it through. Green tape doesn't look great, but it's the back, and that's all I had lying around.

So, I considered printing the cable carrier assembly off thingiverse, but I noticed that the SD2 and SD3 wire bundles are routed slightly differently, and my SD3 possibly wouldn't have clearance for the extruder past a link contacting the Z rods.
I couldn't really be bothered disconnecting every wire to feed through etc. only to find out it didn't quite work (plus print time drives me crazy at times).
