Hi. On 2th of July I've received my SD 3. I've installed the software recommended by Solidoodle, i.e. Arduino driver and Repetier host + Slicr. In the first day I've broke the test wire inside the extruder. I was desperate, but finally I've found that is not a big problem; on the contrary you need to know to handle that because is the same procedure as when change the spool wire. Simply unscrew the big nut on the right (those with a spring) and with a tweezer you may remove the plastic wire (simultaneosly you need to click on the reverse in Repetier). The only caution is that the wire could be removed only if the extruder is heated at 185-195 degree Celsius (is the reason for what I broke the wire).
Very often i use the hair spray before printing. I don't need to change the default settings of the software. Maybe in the future, but for the moment I was pleased with the default ones. Maybe at the beginning you need to calibrate the hot plate. The clearance between the plate and the extruder head must be very narrow (the tickness of a business card). I spend an hour to do that, but since then it was no need to recalibrate it. Now I'm designing pieces for the enclosure, because on the big printings (>8 cm) the first layers tends to curl, because the difference of temperature I guess. In attachement I put a 4 hour print (a big cork for my demijohn) where you may notice a little defect caused by curling. Those days I will work at the enclosure and when I finish it I'll put on-line the files with the pieces used. I make my drawing in Open Scad. I've tried Wings 3D and Free CAD, but finally I use most often Open Scad.
One problem that I encounter was that the printer suddenly stops in the middle of a big printing. After few days I realize that my 10 years old laptop (265 MB RAM) was of blame and I've replaced it with my 7 year old laptop (512 RAM), wich runs flawessly (see the big cork). Pay attention of that.

I ordered my solidoodle 2 pro printer less than 2 weeks ago and I shall receive it tomorrow! Not sure where to start... I gather I should calibrate everything possible first. After that, start printing parts that will improve printing, any order of priority, what parts should I print first? I'm looking forward to modding the printer to work better and more precise... Any suggestions are welcome not afraid of anything, electronics, programming or mechanical...

Thanks in advance for your comments/suggestions!

Brian from Wisconsin...
