I did find a solution to the issue I was having.  I followed the instructions from this website in post #43339 (I would put a link but it won't let me) It shows how to load the arduino0022.zip It has the "teensyduino" driver. 
When you chose it in the Arduino program as the hardware board,  it creates another port which for me ended up being "Com 3"  Now I can communicate with the Solidoodle 3 from Windows 8.1 Pro.  Unfortunately I am now having another problem where the port intermittently stops communicating.  I saw this same issue with the Mac during the heating phase of the bed.  I am getting it to print the first layer but at some point it looses connectivity to the port and starts queuing messages.  The only way to get it back is to unplug the USB port and the power and start again.

Hi Boxedwino, Are there any errors in the RH log window when this happens or does it hang RH also? what is the last command in the RH log? or grab th whole thing and post it you can post links after five posts I think.

Since I am typing this on OSX   I know where you are coming from... I used to do a lot of windows troubleshooting (pre vista) I guess I just got burned out on it... anyways M$ calls it the 'event viewer', I think you can find it under -control panel - system - administrative tools??? or what ever bill gates decided to call it in this revision.... same thing different name = profit

I must admit I am more a of a mac user. I got this tablet to use with the printer. i found it was easier to use my desktop windows pc to make calibrations in software then on OS X. How do I check the Windows error log? I did a quick google search didn't really find any answers.

You mentioned Windows 8 RT - if that was in reference to your own version that you have that means you probably have an Arm derivative ultrabook/tablet here we are talking ? Windows 8 RT is not Windows 8 .... RT is a butchered version designed for use on their ultrabooks etc.

Windows 8 is needed to support Windows x86 software
Windows 8 RT is not compatbile with Windows 8 (it says it right there on the box too! and the microsoft website). RT is not the same code as 'normal' windows, so obviously, drivers aren't compatible. Nor is the likes of 99% of your other software packages.

So - Have you got Windows 8 RT - which is NOT the same as 'Windows 8' ? If you have RT - you're kinda up a creek without a paddle.. and its not Solidoodles fault at all that you have an incompatible computer. They state Windows 8 support (which works fine - I'm using it right now with a print going).

If you have normal Windows 8 - all you need to do is go into Settings, General, Advance Startup. Reboot and when the menu appears, boot with "Driver Signing Disabled".  When booted, install the drivers, and then reboot. Windows 8 Driver Signing is a Microsoft issue, not a 3rd party driver issue. Its to 'protect your safety'... or just make it a pain in the ass to install drivers

So yeah - If its Windows 8 - try what I just described - worked fine on numerous setups I've done on Win8...
If you have Win8 RT - you out of luck

After the mistake with the order, the mistake with the shipping and now this issue.  I may just pack it all back up and return in Monday.

I can see a few issues, but this is just now becoming a pain.
