It is likely that the ceramic heater core was boiling away a little remaining moisture... That happens most times it gets heated up for the first time. If you didn't have to put on a new heater core, make sure that your heater core is all the way down to the nozzle. A gap can lead to a hotter heater barrel than nozzle which could create a problem with the barrel melting out of the PEEK insulating barrel. Also make sure if kapton tape is all the way around so that the thermistor definitely will not come loose. That would lead to the same issue.

Hi.

So my nozzle got clogged. I have a new one that I installed. I believe I put it back together exactly as it was before. I turned on the printer and started to heat it up. At around 140C, slight smoke begins to come away from the hot end. Is this normal? I am not sure what's smoking... maybe the black cover? Do I need to make sure that the kapton tape wraps every part of the nozzle, and the black cover doesn't touch the metal at all?

thank you
dan
