Did a search and read various threads about using a rice cooker, but nobody mentioned timings. Feel free to prove me wrong again cmetzel.

Zarni, how long do you leave each print in for? do you heat it up first? or put everything in cold, switch it on, and then leave it for 20 mins? My rice cooker looks to be the same as yours.

It seems to have 2 settings, 'cook' and 'warm'. And switched itself from cook to warm at some point. Not sure if this is temperature controlled or on a timers

One thing to be aware of is the amount of vapour heating acetone creates. The lid on my rice cooker can be covered in condensation very quickly if this was inside the printer you would need some pipework to vent it otherwise all sorts of bit would start to fail. Don't just think a lid will hold it, that'll be pushed off in no time.
Anyway as mine is setup up in my Ikea unit I can't do that anymore which is one reason I tried to get the vacuum method working.

Saying that though, working from Tealvince's suggestion if I could find the right bowl/lid combo I'll give it a try, I wonder if some Pyrex kitchen things would do the trick. I guess having a few different sizes wouldn't be too bad to store.
Also PP stuff should be OK, things like microwave bowls are sometimes PP but I'm not 100% about the direct heating of a bowl, it might go a bit funky rather quickly.......hmmm, that might need some testing.

One last thing, remember the thickness of the container base will make it just about impossible to do a real 6 inch cube as it will start to interfere with the print head, but as I have the same issue with my rice cooker that is a minor point.

I found this 8x8x8 glass wedding centerpiece vase that might do the trick.  You'd have to fashion your own lid if you want one, and the bottom might be a bit thick, but I hope this points you in the right direction.

8x8x8 glass containers could be tricky to find.  You might find something in ceramic (I think that would be ok for the acetone).

That gap is around 30mm

BUT.
These are the cyberman legs I made which I scaled up 300% but had to reduce the height to get the to print and they fit in the bottom nicely.

So if you ever print a full 150mm cube then this won't work for smoothing, but in the real world I can't see a problem big enough to worry about.

Hmmmm, if it ever comes to that, I'll make up an extender ring, thick card should do for a one off, unless I can be bothered to go in the garage and cut a strip of steel.

The seal is just the lip of the bowl with the lid resting inside (no rubber) so when you heat the acetone it will try and lift the lid if you have bunged up the vent hole. Any vapour condensing on the lid can only run back inside.

I have some model fuel tube that I put in the hole to allow it to vent out the window so never have any problems. Obviously if you seal the vent hole and constrain the lid something will go badly wrong when heating.

will this cooker comfortably take a 6" cube? In particular the height... how is the seal on the lid? does it let any vapour escape?

what we do get though are slow cookers.

which is what i use just now, but find the lid does not seal to the outer body, so a lot of vapor is lost. I'm using the one from Asda for £15.

additionally, it fits a 6" object in but only just! so difficult to cook a large part!

however I want something else, maybe like a stainless steel pressure cooker,,,but that in itself doesnt come with a clear lid, so I'd have to open it to check on the parts then lose the vapour.... it would seal ok though!!

so maybe a rice cooker would be fine... I am actively looking for something right now, I'll post back any results and watch this thread with interest
