1) Firmware/software compensation
2) Additional printed weight holder (nickels) mounted to outboard (front) of stage
- theory is similar to preload...decreased slop between z-axis threads due to cantilevered load.
- also adds a dampening effect for stage movement.
3) Printed spring loaded stage stabilizers against outboard (front) frames
- stage is compliantly tied to frames and slightly biased downward by printed plastic spring leafs
- in combination with the additional weight above, the stage movement stays tied to the frames.
4) Shimmed extruder motor to stabilize (from front to back) and removed all adj slack I could find in drives.

I also initially added a counterweight system (pulleys, chains, more nickels, steampunk style) to pull up on the stage mount at the z-axis screw. The theory was to bias all of the tolerances out of the z-axis drive from the frame all the way up. It initially gave good results, but, when the OB weight holder was added, it's interaction tended to add noise to the travel. I experimented and decided the OB weight was the simpler and more reliable effect, so have unloaded the rear counterbalance weight. I left the apparatus however because, similar to Dr. Who and bowties, I think chains and pulleys are cool.
