Hi superk,

glad to see that there is another optimist trying to get this old Setup running and is facing the same problems as I am. Funny I only found this Community now and Not weeks ago when I started to busy myself with this project.

Thanks to various posts and a list of parts, I managed to assemble a scanner and get it running...kind of. My scanning results are even worse than yours. When I found this topic, I was about to Look around for any tips of what to do. Right now, I'm not even sure if things will work out at all or I better disassemble everything.

I'm running FreeLSS 1.22 (from Uriahs GitHub) on a Pi 2B with a 2021 (?) Raspbian 'buster' image, where I installed the necessary packages and compiled FreeLSS. Wasn't that easy to get the 10-year-old setup to Run :-)
I put most of the electronics onto a breadboard, because I didnt want to solder everything as long as I cant be sure if IT will work.
I then calibrated the Scanner according to the original pages and Videos I could find utilizing the triangle-shaped calibration Item with the three tips. Since I read that the Background 'scene' is of importance while calibrating: it was on my workbench with stuff lying around and a wall-mounted light facing towards the camera. Maybe I should repeat the process as a first step in a better environment.

Concerning my scan results: If I scan the triangular calibration Item, the results looks like a cylinder. As If the Scanner only accepted/realized the points in a fixed distance from the camera/lasers.

Right now, I have no clue what would be best to try. There are so many variables in both hard- and Software, so many controls and screws to fiddle with. I am willing to give it a try (or two), If someone could point to the right direction :-)

If it won't work, it seems photogrammetry has made quite some progress in the past couple of years and newer smartphones even receive lidar-scanners built-in. But I'd still prefer the Atlas, since it is something I made by myself and...well...it has lasers! :-D

So, maybe we somehow get this running.

Greetings from Germany

Sam

P.S.: Please ignore all those upper case mistakes, my tablet is convinced to use German spelling 'improvements' on English words :-/
