Machining a melt filter nozzle on a CNC made of printed parts.

This past April I was at home a bit more, and I decided to try turning one of my regular Filastruder nozzles into a melt filter nozzle. I used a RootCNC, and a 0.046 inch bit from Drillbitsunlimited (despite the name of the store, it was an endmill, not a drill bit).

I 3D printed something to thread onto the nozzle, with the intention of then attaching the plastic part to my spoilerboard. Later in order to make sure I had centered the CNC over the nozzle I instead cut out the shape of the hex head of the nozzle in a piece of MDF that was attached to my spoilboard, then just pressed the hex head down into the shape I'd cut. (since the CNC had machined the shape of the nozzle with the center being 0,0 it knew where center was).

Here's one of the setup: I swear I've cleaned up the dust some since this photo was taken, if you ever cut Extira, even a little, it evades dust collection, it manages to get everywhere, and it clings to everything. It's basically MDF but instead of glue they used resin to hold it together making it outdoor rated, and enabling it to hold a lot more detail.
