The dial mount that I printed just has two tabs that stick between the wood and plexiglas on the extruder.

I also tied the top of the diage to the extruder with an elastic band to stop the guage moving about. (which may be the real cause of the errors you're seeing here)

carriage movement shouldn't be an issue. you should move your Z platform up such that it takes up any slack and moves the dial a few turns so that it's in the middle of it's range. basically, there should be enough weight (of the guage) on the front of the extruder, that the carriage doesn't move, or there should be enough tension in the guage that the carriage doesn't move.

if you find that the carriage is moving, add some weight to it to stabilise it.

but as I said above, you may find what's actually happening is that your gauge is flopping about a bit causing wild readings, and just securing it with an elastic band may help.

I printed out the dial indicator mount and am trying to get things leveled. I have a piece of glass clipped to the aluminium bed. My measurements seem to be all over the place. While checking to see how well the dial indicator was mounted I noticed that I can rock the print carriage about .5mm. Is this normal? Are the white Teflon blocks supposed to be tight to the rear rod? This might not be the issue, but I'm seeing almost that much variation front to back on the glass and it reads the same at the adjusting screws. My glass can't be off by that much can it?

TiM
