I would not try to cut more than paper .
as far as forums do not know.
you do not need the z height.
from what i have seen the $400 40 watt machines are decent  if you throw away the exhaust fan and replace and toss the software and use open source.

I still need to get my $200 cnc engraver going before i make another purchase.

I recently became interested in the possibilities of converting my spare 3D printer into a laser cutter/engraver. I have seen a few Utube videos but is there a forum similar to this on for that purpose? I would like to pursue this further and would love to find a friendly, useful forum like ours to avoid the usual asshats that tend to spoil things.
