i got the name spelled backwards thing pretty much right away, but what can I say? lol that used to be a big thing back in the day..

but, yeah, probably not going to get a printer handed to you, Brandon.
While they are not terribly expensive anymore, they do cost enough that most people will not just give one away.

Carl's suggestion of going out and doing yardwork, or something similar, to earn a few bucks is an excellent one. Even high school kids can do this. How are you with little kids? Babysitting is another option (and yes, boys can do that)

Not sure where you live, and it really doesn't matter. I am sure there are older folks around that would appreciate a healthy young man coming and doing some yardwork - mowing, raking, snow shoveling if you live in an area that gets snow - that they might be struggling with, and would gladly pay a few dollars for the help with.

If you are truly "hooked" as you claim, you will find a way to earn the money to buy one, even a used one, to get started with.
Ask for cash for a "printer fund" for birthdays & holidays, instead of presents. There are a multitude of ways you can do this, but it is going to take determination and perseverance to make it happen.

MOST people are not just going to let a printer go. The lower priced versions are on average $150. That being said the parts on a good printer would fetch well over that if the machine was parted out on ebay or even here. I may be wrong and there be be somebody just so fed up with their machine they would to pawn it off on and torture a scrub. But I would not hold my breath and as Tin suggested throw it out as a Christmas idea. Tell everyone that is all you wish for. Maybe you will get lucky. It's only two months away..

Otherwise get a part time job and save up. At 30 bucks a yard you could mow 5 yards and have one of the lower priced $150 units in your hands. Of course there are many other things you could do part time to make a few hundred bucks. Of course you will also need post processing supplies and tools as well as filament. Starting out one roll is not going to last you very long. 3D printing is not a cheap hobby. It's not expensive like some, but it still is not cheap either.

I would suggest you do a lot of reading and research before you dive in. This hobby is not just plug and play. Your machine will require tuning and upkeep. You may even have to replace components on the controller at some point so soldering skills could even be required. There are not many places you can take a printer to for repair. It is something you have to learn and do.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I did not know that's what that means lol. It's Brandon spelled backwards so that's hilarious. And your right about how I came off, I was just very excited. My friends father is an engineer and he has been showing us how to CAD design, and we finished a piece and he took us to the library and we saw it print our part and I was hooked. He said he couldn't get a printer for me but he would get me filament if I got my own printer. I'm in high school and I don't work so it's either wait for a holiday or that's it basically. So I thought about reaching out to groups and communities ecause I know there are good people out there who would love to help get someone started.

My suggestion is if you really want a 3d printer work for it.
3d printing
takes
passion
perseverance
Patience
and a bit of perspiration.
Plus knowledge skill and ability.
Do you even have any skills to operate , maintain and repair a 3d printer. do you have any design skills to design parts or artwork you want to print. Do you own a computer needted to prepare and process files for 3d printing?

Also your moniker is a bit of a put off, do you even know what it means?

From the urban dictionary

nodnarb (noun): The living existence of a snaggle toothed knuckle dragger residing in the outer Richmond district of San Francisco. Related much to the urban yeti, this species has red hair and freckles and drinks large quantities of meat milk.

Not a very nice first impression .

If you really want a 3d printer the folks hear may be able to help . but you need to do better than coming off as a kid in a candy store. I saw a demo and i want one so can someone give me one.

Christmas is coming up have family and friends donate to a printer fund instead of other gifts. Take odd jobs save a bit of money then ask advice here before purchasing.

Hi I am new to 3d printing. I saw a demo at my library and really want to get into 3d printing but I can't afford a printer. Does anyone have an extra, old, spare or even broken printer they are willing to gratiously donate to me. If so it would open the door to 3d printing for me and I would be eternally grateful! Let me know, thanks!
