To anyone with the same problem: loosen the screws holding the motor to the fram and see if it works then. I had to use some washers (or an extra nut or two) to shorten the distance the screw can go into the motor. As I turn from the lowest position, it begins to sing a quite B5 (click here and find the note to hear what I'm hearing https://recursivearts.com/virtual-piano/). As I turn the knob, the sound goes away again until I reach the max and it's silent.
