However, the solution born with its limitations to do what it is defined to do currently. I posted this as i feel it is information people hear would be interested in.
IMHO the multicolored concept is the future of 3d printing . No it is not for everyone. Time will tell if when i buy one of these. If you are such an expert build and market your own version . If it is good enough and the right price people will buy it. but I see no proof of that happening. It is easy to criticize harder to make things happen .

People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it.

This also goes for people that claim they can do better but do nothing.

tin

I don't like old tech, but for the new tech, it has to be simple enough to become popular. It is somewhat true that new tech always somewhat more complex than old tech, but the success new tech find ways to package the complexity so that it appears to be simple for end users.

Pallet 2 use complex mechanism to do simple task, it has some advantages, but they are not killer application for stuff asking that price. Believe it or not, they will come up with the automatic filament loader sooner or later, if they price it $75-150 depend on how many spool you can load, at least 1/3 of people own 3D printer will get one. Material production cost can be as low as $20 for 2 extruder version.

Whatever engineer want to make may be fancy and advance but they never make enough money. I sometimes wondering if I should switch my career goal to marketing, they can always sell low tech product and make a lots of money and decide to fire half of the R&D team. I was in the only R&D team that they decide to keep and my mom make me quit.

BTW, the point I made is from evolution angle, creatures evolve fancy and complex system to do simple task always dies off faster, not from engineering angle.

I think the system can be a lot simpler to load 4 rolls of the same color and let the thing print for days because much simpler logic and accuracy is required. I will agree a striped down version of this system for continue filament feed will have great future because system can be much simplified and therefore the cost can be very low. It even have the potential to become standard configuration of every 3D printer if it is priced right.

For the multi-color/material printing, multiple extruder is still a better solution because of the simplicity. Complex and high accuracy requirement come with more cost and failure rate.

There is a lot to the system And you can move this from one printer to another if needed .
There is no need for 4 different hot ends and the motors are integrated into the mosaic pallet unit.
Give them a couple years and likely the price will drop again and more improvements will be integrated.
That seems to be the normal cycle of R&D.
This is a fairly new concept in 3d printing to be able to print in full color. This may lead to full color blending where you have 5 colors black, white , red blue and yellow and the machine blends accordingly.
m . This system more than switches color it integrates them into the print or various materials.
It is admittedly a bit pricey the Retail price on the Pallet 2 is roughly twice the price. of the similar Prusa Unit priced at $299. The mosaic team has put a lot into this including software development.
The mosaic is designed to be used with many most printers. I can also see this being used for large printers as it can be set if one filament runs out it simply feeds the next one in. so one could simply load 4 rolles of the same color and let the thing print for days.

You need to decide if this product is something you need or want and if the price is right for you.
This is just one of the bleeding edge technologies on the market. like i mentioned Prusa had a similar unit and E3d has the 4 tool head printer. that has a lot of potential.

It can be programmed to stop the feed of one color and start the feed of another at any time.
