alright, my solidoodle is now back to printing stuff.

i had no time to think about how i was going to mod from 1 resistor to 2, i figure since the resistor fit in the hole that i could just change that resistor.

changed it, and reattached everything. i'll mod it another time, i got 7 days left at home before i hve to leave for work, i wana print these cup holders asap

i am pinting all the mk4 extruder parts for now, since my extruder is broken.

cant you reuse the clear insulating tubing from your old hot end?

it seems really short... when I cut open the black heat shrink and de-solder the original joint I'm afraid I might damage some of it with the soldering iron. I figure it'd be safer to just use a new resistor with new insulation.

i dont know if i can reuse anything.

i will most likely plug that new heater core in there and cross my fingers. if shtf i'll cry hoping it'll fix itself.

to be honest, i didnt took the amperage into consideration.

i might simply use one resistor in the heater head

other possibility is to hook up both resistors and use an external power supply so i can manually boost the setup to reach temperature. one resistor seem to be ok to keep the temperature, its to raide to that level that take long, using the 2nd resistor just to heat up could help.

i'll figure something out.

didnt recieved nothing yet, as soon as i recieve that stuff i'll post a good detailled update.

well that didn't take long... i got my SD2Pro on the 9th, and today my heat resistor is broken too.

I was running a print unattended then i went out to check on it to find the temperature started cooling down about 10 minutes prior. i stopped the print and grabbed my multimeter and traced the fault down to the heat resistor.

I guess I could fix it myself quickly as i have spare heat resistors from my mendel. but i don't have the clear insulating tubes that goes on the resistor leads. anyone know where I can buy that stuff in bulk?

myrand, have you set up your replacement heater yet? I'm curious. Looking at the picture in the link it looks like their design uses 2 resistors, one on either side of the tube. The only problem I see with that is they are giving you two 6.3 ohm resistors. The stock SD resistor is 6 ohms. If you hook the two up in series you'll get 12 ohms which would cut your power in half. If you hook them up in parallel you'll end up with three ohms and will probably draw too much current from the power supply. I've seen people using 5mm cartridge heaters that are advertised at 40 watts. I wonder if that 40 watt rating is at 24V. If so this would make a perfect replacement for the stock SD resistor that runs at 20 watts.

My new SD3 is also down. Plastic got stuck in the acrylic, and I had to take apart to fix. Peek clogged, cleaned with a hot saftey pin. Now a wire has broken apart from the heat core. Will try to solder today. Ordered another hot end from Solidoodle, but who knows when they will ship. I hope its not going to be another 7 weeks!!!!! Other than that, I love my SD3.

yeah.
i am getting rid of their desng for the hot end.
i found a hot end replacement kit for 15$
and you can get spare heater resistances and spare thermstors.
if anything breakdown, i can fix in 10 minutes and order some more of these 2$ resistors.

the next thing to go is the x axis motor. its sooooo overloaded for a stepper, i bet you i can make it smoke so it gets hot. . . . .not good at all.

Had the same problem . I ran a 12hr print @ only 195C. Then later that day I tried another print and hotend wouldn't heat. SD 3 was only 16 days old. Had been doing ok up to that point. They are sending me a replacement but it's taking way too long LOL I ordered some filament before the hotend died. It's llike having gas and nothing to put it in.
