The ft5 v 2 is not designed as a first time time build. but with enough determination you can make it work.

I'm torn between Slic3r and Cura for slicing.

Do not worry about it use the one that make sense to you. I prefer slic3r but cura has worked when the latter would not .

Several folk here have built the FT5 and can answer questions . IMHO you could have made a worst choise for a kit.

If you have not already done so download the manual and study it. And there is a folger tech forum that can help.

hope this helps.

Hello! I used to be a farmer, and then got into law, and later became the editor of an agricultural publication. 3D printing is not on my resume.

It will be, though. Mere moments ago I placed an order for a Folger Tech FT-5 R2 kit. I've studied like crazy for two months with Design Spark Mechanical. I'm torn between Slic3r and Cura for slicing. I've had good luck (maybe) with Spin 3D Mesh Converter.

I'd like to play with PLA or ABS to get good and confident, and then switch to Taulman's Bridge Nylon for generating saleable product. The nearest 3D printing job shop is nearly 100 miles away.

A bold plan, and subject to change at a moment's notice on good advice!
