I like CncEdit better for viewing files. Seem easier on first use just to see the file contents. I didn't want to make a project just to see a file. Spending a few more minutes with camotics it seems to have better graphics.

What program are you using to generate g code. And what machine do you have.

I do not have one at home yet. We use Artcam Pro 2008 at work. It came with the machine they bought. Not sure of the name it just has CNC router 1325 on it. I am looking at this one with the 300w spindle.

I have one just like it and I can't find a "good" CAM package that speaks GRBL.

Sound like we are in a similar "Boat "here.

I have found 4 possibilities to generate g code.
1) is inkscape simply generate a vector file though the paths then select the g code utilities  select engrave and select a tool.
2) jscut an online gcode generator  for this type of machine.
3) Easel another on line utility fro generating  g code .
it is from insructables so you need an instuctables acount to use
4). The other possibility is fusion 360 but you do need to sign up it is an on line program but no cost for educational hobby use.

I have been playing with cambotics  to preview g code. 

you should just need a cam program to generate g code. this little machine seems to be a knockoff of the bigger X-Carve project from insructables if that helps.
I was hoping some one would pitch in wit a free for home use cam package but not sure if they exist.

Be careful because a lot of the on line tutorials are for home brew lasers and plotters.While these are cnc machines the g code is a little diferant.

I use it mostly with Grbl .08 Control.    Any programming I do is entirely by hand,  otherwise I use it as a manual mill,  I just click the jogs on my screen.   Glorified manual mill and giant DRO, basically.

I downloaded desk engrave
and camotics but with very limited results

So any recommendations on control software and easy to use cam program and an easy to use simulator program that would be helpful .

I prefer software that are OS projects and not cloud based.  I may try easel  is i have to .
The machine came pre-loaded  with GRBL and has a grbl woodpecker control board and no end stops or connections for them .
