I don't use a fan and I used .3mm and it works well.  Haven't heard any bad feedback from the others that have printed it as well.

   Cmetzel, IMHO your thing is the shite and has been working fantastically for me for a couple months now!!!
  I was concerned originally that the thread wouldn't work after reading other people's 'horror' stories relating to printing threads. However I was completely amazed at how well it came out, and that the threads worked perfectly fine right off the print bed without any cleanup using the Solidoodle .3mm Slic3r profile. Also, I don't use a fan, as I just haven't gotten to around to that mod yet.

Those buffer threads look pretty good I'm impressed, I usually just use .3 and just run the tap through just to save time.

I had printed that part so that the cut-plane was facing the bed and the threads were being printed at a 45 degree angle from the bed. At .3mm height it still came out looking great. Unfortunately no pics were taken of just the threads.

It seems the outers are always lasy.

Well I see in Slic3r:
Inside-outer to inner perimters are first (if more then 1 perimeter set)
then infil
then final outer perimeter
then next layer
