Like ronsii said, you can use a very low spec pc, but for slicing and designing you will want a little more power because thats the actual cpu intensive part.

It really doesn't take hardly any computing power to run the printer and if your going to design on a different computer you might want to slice on that same computer and then just move the gcode over to your printing computer although depending on what kind of objects you are slicing (small simple) the above computer may suffice for the slicing too.

Hello I'm a new guy here and I just ordered my Solidoodle 2. I am turning an old Dell Lattitude D600 into an (all in one) kinda thing for my work bench computer. Will the D600 have enough power as not to lag behind the S2 (as in mess up prints)? It only has 1gb ram but I'm going put the max of 2gb in soon...... wow big woop I know Its running Windows XP These are the specs:

Processor / Chipset

    CPU Intel Pentium M 745 / 1.6 GHz
    Cache L2 cache - 2.0 MB
    Front Side Bus 400.0 MHz
    Features Power-optimized processor system bus,
    Enhanced SpeedStep technology

Memory

    RAM 128.0 MB
    Max RAM Supported 2.0 GB
    Technology DDR SDRAM
    Speed 266.0 MHz / PC2100
    Form Factor SO DIMM 200-pin
    Slots Qty 2

I'm going to design the parts on another computer then transfer them to this one if its good enough.

any help would be appreciated
