If you're looking to get good, detailed scans, forget about anything that works with Kinect, RealSense, or other sensors like them.

Since you can't use a dedicated scanner, then the DSLR solution is it. Photoscan is pretty good, but will require quite a bit of work. There are others like it that work by stitching together photos. I did try Photoscan before but I eventually went with a SLS scanner. Simpler to use, and I didn't need to scan large objects.

These programs are for scanning larger objects, not small pieces which the laser and turntable based ones work with.
Some require Kinect (v1) which I have.
I hope someone here has experience with them and can give a hint on which on which one to use over the others. Their videos don't make it very clear which one's superior in scan quality/detail and mesh triangulation.

Here are the programs:
KScan
Skanect
Agisoft Photoscan.

I also found a program called ReconstructMe but few comparison reviews said it is inferior in quality of the scan to Skanect.
If there's another one not in my list you think is worth checking out please mention that too.
But I'm required to use either a Kinect or a DSLR camera, or both, no unique hardware. But the program doesn't have to be free.

I will be scanning things like cars and statues and retopologising them in my 3d editor. Since I'm not required to not share the scans with 3rd parties I can freely post them at thingiverse.
Camera and Kinect can be attached to a tripod with a custom adapter I made and the tripod is attached to a dolly (adds wheels to the tripod). The tripod allows to rotate the camera+kinect holder in 2 axis.

Thanks in advance.
