The 1.0a is simply a 1.0 with the updated motherboard where they re-positioned the SDcard, removed the erase header. That was the only change and like the 1.0 regardless of what advertising says it is not designed to work with PLA. The heatbreak is not large enough to remove enough heat to keep the PLA from swelling in the neck. You might get lucky and it will print for a while. But if you ever try to run a print that runs 8 plus hours you will get jamming.

i too was trying to print PLA, in the end I just accepted to use the existing extruder. but I have noticed that on PLA if the head is too close to the bed it cannot print, I had tor recalibrate, I wonder if it is different when the bed heats to a hotter temperature, I have also noticed that I have had to recalibrate (using the manual method with a strip of paper) a second time after doing some prints with PLA.
another trick is when loading the pla run extra through the extruder by pretending it hasnt loaded < arrow instead of OK, I did this about 5 times and it prints fine.
on a side note, I did notice that when you are looking for the extruder head, that the part number has changed and it is in some places described as the 'improved extruder head' I wonder if this is to handle the PLA better.
I cant find the difference in part numbers at the moment, but its a moot point because nowhere had any in stock, the price was $99

I just replied to one of the other duplicate posts offering another option but Carl is right, the stock hotend can be fairly easily modded to work with PLA.
I did this with mine and it worked ok ....... for a while.
It became less and less reliable and in the end, I gave up and switched to an E3D hotend.
I believe there is now a simple "drop-in" mount for the E3D on Thingiverse.
The stock extruder is also very limited when it comes to printing certain filaments such as flexibles.
I also switched to my own extruder design and now have a machine that is probably on a par with printers costing 2 or 3 times it's price.

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1723817

You have to buy their PLA hotend or modify your hotend by increasing the surface area of the heat break and adding a fan to blow directly on the heat break.. The issue is that heat creeps up the heat break and causes the PLA to swell inside the heat break and creating the jam you are having.

I answered your first post.
