Can I get around this???]]> This is a 'Basic' model Solidoodle 2nd generation 3d printer. This particular model is the only one that we offer that does not come with a heated build platform. If you would like to purchase and upgrade package which includes the heated build platform then you can find it in the following link:

If you paid $499US then you got the SD2 without the heated build platform.

Can I get around this???]]> That is definitely a SD2.  Did you pay $499 or $799?  It's nice that they offer a $499 version, but it is mostly only good for publicity.  An acrylic bed is pretty much PLA only.

Have you measured the print bed?

You want to make sure, especially if you ordered an SD3, I have seen a couple videos on youtube where the person did an unboxing and the label showed a different order number then theirs, so maybe sent you a Basic SD2 instead of a SD3.

unfortunately, for ABS to stick to the bed the bed has to be at least 70-80 degrees C.

That sort of temperature as an ambient temperature would probably lead to inadequate cooling of motors and kill them. of course you wouldn't actually be so bothered about the printer because in that sort of heat you'd die pretty quickly also.

I would contact customer service, you paid for it if an SD3.

As a side note to all, I would make an unboxing video just in case you have issues too.
