I have a fairly good working knowledge of 123d Design from autodesk the makers of autocad.

A couple weeks ago I decided to play a little and designed a simple concept cookie cutter
tell me what you think.

123d will also take a svg file to start with then it can be made 3d .

How much control is allowed in cookie caster beyond the original drawing you upload ?

The other question remains is it a design issue or a printing issue that is causing the cutter to fail . And i wonder the intent of cookie caster is there algorithm intended for easy fast printing of a cc to be used for one baking session or for repeated commercial use?
I know more questions than answers.

Edit: I see now cookiecaster allows to choose overall size , height and cutter thickness. however with something like 123d we could make thickness even multiple of nozzle size. Hmmm
Hope this helps.
Also PM sent
tin

@Tin Falcon Maybe we can set up a design session to help me though this. The http://www.cookiecaster.com/ site does the design that converts a traced image to a cookie cutter .STL file so I've just been using the files generated by that site.

there are changes that can be made with an open system. Not sure what control available on the davinci.
from the design point of view a chamfer on one or both sides of the cutting edge could help.

you could increase perimeters to the print to the of no infill. there is an infill overlap setting on most slicer software this could be increased. you could try increasing extrusion temp by 5 degrees for better bonding.
there are also liquid seal coating for PLA but do not know if they are food safe.

Tin

Update Changing the infill density helped a little bit.
I decided to try & 'seal' the cutting surface by heating a tray & sliding the cutting part of my cookie cutter on a piece of parchment paper on the hot tray. Any other suggestions.

Yes that is exactly what happens - on the stress point the dough seems to get into the cutter and it develops the split.
I have just tried increasing the fill from low 10% to medium 20% through xyzware and I will give this a try.
