But I will assume it is the Y axis that is causing you the issues.  Start by ensuring the set screws on all the dive pulleys are snug.  Make sure your belts are properly tensioned and equal.
Double check that the X axis moves perfectly perpendicular to the y axis.  Pull it forward and compare it to the front angle of the frame as you move the X carriage left and right.

I pulled this off of Thingiverse, it is Thing: 177645, a Jeep Grille made by ReplikaPrinting.

First, the headlights (larger circles) are not taking a perfect circle shape as it seems the original STL part is, they are deformed quite significantly. The lower square parts of the grille are pretty decent, though could be sharper. Hopefully in the photos you can see the gaps I am talking about, I won't know until I upload though.

I am using Repetier-Host and Black 1.75mm ABS, printing at 217c (roll recommends 210c-230c) and have the heating bed at 105c.

I think I made the right choice! I was able to successfully get prints going after about 30 minutes of re-calibrating everything. I have been able to do a small piston, some brackets, and a bunch of tiny keychains I've pulled from some open-licence webpaged. I am still experiencing some weird printing issues, sometimes I get very profound gaps as well as some other mishaps, such as my perfect circles coming out more like squares, but that just means I need to play with it more!http://soliforum.com/i/?wNTIIYi.jpg

Update on my situation, spoke to the owner of the device (SD3), I am going to be getting a few rolls of filament tossed in as well as extra hardware and electronic pieces for $290USD. Seems like a pretty good deal to me, excited to pick it up sometime soon! Will let you guys know when I get it and start printing. smile

First off all welcome!! second of all congratulations on your first printer.  And thirdly  given those choices
and prices I would definitely gone with the SD3 .

With any printer make sure it is mechanically sound . Screws and belts tight proper lube axis square and free to move then learn to tune the software and the electronics.

As noted in my sig line I have an SD4 and a FT prusa 2020 upgraded to a titan and ed3v6.

Yes, Solidoodle the company is gone, BUT - replacement parts are easy to get (i never did need to order anything from SD directly with two of the SD4s). and with Printit Industries filling the gap with parts for pretty much all of the SD2, 3 & 4 lines, it is even easier now. wink
and if you need something that Printit doesnt carry (yet), just ask, someone can point you in the right direction.

Print quality can be outstanding if you take the time to calibrate well & learn the software

just as an example...printed with Inland brand Silver PLA on one of my SD4s...

I have built a couple of Prusa's from scratch for a few friends. I got an itch for a machine of my own and opted for the SD4 on Ebay knowing it was doomed from a support point of view at the right price. The reason I chose it was the basic frame and platform really, That's the only proprietary things really and unless you are going to run over them they won't go wrong. The rest of the parts are just off the shelf, ideas. ingenuity and enthusiasm you will get right here ;-)

Thanks for the response. Sounds awesome! My parents own a print shop (paper, not plastic), so I know how hard it is when they have machines that break or need support. Definitely the scariest thing about buying new consumer tech.

I like community support more than customer usually, sadly, it's easier to get info through pages like this rather than calling someone who has less knowledge than people here!

Definitely leans my vote to the Solidoodle 3...

Those were my two favorites of the three, I really felt like asking here for some better advice so thank you! In no way am I dying to get one in my workshop today, so I am not going to drop $XXX on a printer without knowing what I'll get and being happy.

I like the XYZ for the more capabilities, but NewEgg holds a solid 3/5 stars. The Solidoodle looks good from what I've seen on videos and reviews. However, it scares me how many people have said the build quality is junk and you have to reprint all the pieces because they come very cheap.

You have the Solidoodle 4? How is the print quality? Would you be comfortable selling the items you print? (I find that's the best measurement of quality, haha!)

I do not like the Prusa much. Older versions were very primitive. Newer ones are better, but still built off that platform.

The XYZ has fans and detractors. Quality and service are both of concern. With that being said, they are still in business so there is some support. Either with the XYZ or Solidoodle you will probably be relying on the community for support. The dual color is less necessary and useful than you would think. Nice to have, but don't let it make the decision.

Solidoodle went out of business because of bad customer service and poor business decisions. The printers were generally pretty good for what they were. Especially the 3's and 4's that were still built in Brooklyn. However, having them actually be defunct could cause you problems later getting spare parts. Having an extra set of pieces already printed is helpful.

Up to you, but I would probably go with the Solidoodle, but it would not be wrong to go with the XYZ.
