This is a German soldier with a panzerschreck.  The scan is not retouched.  I have focused the original camera, and upgraded  to focusable lasers.  I think I'm at the limit of what can be done without upgrading to the 8MP Camera Module v2.

These were scanned in 5MP still mode, with noise removal disabled (I figured I'd rather preserve details, and remove errant points in Meshlab). I did use the talcum powder technique to knock down the gloss, and make the black bumpers, top, and tires visible. 

I'm quite pleased with the results so far.  The Atlas3D seems to have picked up the details nicely.  I'm continuing to refine settings, lighting, etc.

]]> https://www.soliforum.com/user/1357/ 2016-07-22T19:49:34Z https://www.soliforum.com/post/125378/#p125378 <![CDATA[Re: How to scan small objects with high detail]]> Yes, I'm still working in this area but I haven't had a chance to devote a lot of time to it yet.  I first tried adjusting the focal distance of the 8MP camera to all close as possible and then using a shorter frame in order to increase the relative object size on the sensor.  This seems to help, but the results are still not what I would like.  The main problem I'm facing is accurately and consistently choosing the center of the laser line with these very small objects.  I plan on experimenting with another laser, the Pi NOIR camera, and to see what software changes can be made that will help.
