I'm in the same boat. I'm building a Tevo Tarantula soon, so I'll be putting my scrappy ol' SD2 out to pasture. I have a friend who teaches tech/computer class at a middle school, so I'm hoping he'll take it as a donation to show the kids what 3D printing is.

On a related note, that printer looks sweet! You did a good job of painting the frame. Your mods pretty much mimic mine. When I bought my Solidoodle, I wasn't even really interested in modding it, just making parts for the medical design company I work for. When the jigsaw finally fell apart on me, I was forced to start modding for the sake of keeping my design cycles in line.

In fact, I even printed out some orthopedic component protos that were seen by the heads of a Korean orthopedics company...all with my little SD2.

Lastly, put it up on your local Craigslist before you try Fleabay. Less hoops to jump through.

Yeah,Iv realized that.. At this point im just going to keep it as it prints pretty darn good now..

As for the larger printer, I have most of the parts ordered and using 3 ball lead screws for the Z and the plate will slide on 4 10mm smooth rods.. It should be good...

Pics please if you really build a 20x20x20" printer. Lots of people talk about it, few accomplish it. Everything gets bigger, so rods are thicker to avoid sagging, which adds inertia... which makes you need to go slower. Then the challenge of differential cooling of such big parts must be addressed. It is certainly possible but there are good reasons it is rarely done. Let us know how it works out.

As to your original question... you would be lucky to get $250 for it on eBay. I follow ebay pretty closely for solidoodles and that is about the going rate for an SD2, even with the mods. You are being hurt by the wood platform, no one really wants that.

IIRC they have 6" option now.
I am one of those that favors an 8" plate .
