Next to the power & usb port on mine there seems to be a sd card slot... what is that for exactly?
I am planning on attaching the press to a VMware hosted Win 7 image running inside my Ubuntu OS. Anyone else have a similar configuration working (before I go too far down the rabbit hole)
Does anyone have an electronic version of documentation that goes with the solidoodle press? Would be much appreciated just to scan through the docs.
Thanks:)

Supposedly they made a v1.2 / v2 of the press but I have't seen anything that would suggest it wasn't more then a PR hand-waving show. I was among the first to receive a press and it ran into issues immediately. Since I was among the first I was able to send it back and receive another one that was supposed to have been a v2 of the press printer. I couldn't tell the difference and experienced the same issues as before. Shortly after this one also bit the dust. (temp thermristor went) They never replied to any emails and I have since been stuck with this machine. There was suppose to be an SD card slot and even suppose to be a wifi version from what I remember. Personally I feel like the location for that SD card is in the worst possible location. The documentation for this device is very short and I can see what I have when I get back to my place later tonight.

jlyons001 wrote:

Can the Press be disassembled to get at the belt drive gears to tighten set screws? Also, if it can be disassembled, what casing parts can be left off for ease of future repairs, which from reading only a few posts may be often? Please advise. Thank you.

Funny you should ask this...I just finished taking apart the entire press and fully gutting it. If you're not comfortable working, breaking, and repairing things then don't even think about touching it. This thing is worse then those wire tires around children's toys during Christmas. There are A LOT of lever tabs that hold parts in that you have to bend out of the way to slide the part out. Only issue is I broke most of them. Past that, the entire shell is held together by itself. Scared the S*** out of me as i removed one screw and had half my machine fall apart on me. The entire process was complete and utter hell to be honest. There's no way I am putting it back together the same way. I have plans to rebuild it with custom internals for the machine that will support the external shell and allow easy access to all parts. I have been taking pictures as I go so you'll have an "IDEA" what you'll be in for. Right now I just purchased books for my semester so I don't really have any money to do much money and will be a limiting factor to how much I do right now. However, I have plans to relocate the SD card as well as adding a touch screen or other interface to the press. Also, a lot of this will also depend on if I keep the stock controller or go to something else. Once again my constraints will be money. However, I will definitely post what I come up with and any files I design for the re-build.

Feel free to post and ask questions. Ill reply when I can

TruFord

Soilidoodle is Dead as a company. Downfall was the Press product.
This printer had many errors from the factory. Scroll down for the litany. Most are repairable.
Software is on this forum, 3rd sticky thread.
Better software is available on the web. (Matter Control is free, Simplicity 3D is $150 but very nice, there are others.)
Documentation was a farce anyway, More like a unpacking and setup guide, no real Documentation.
This forum is far more help.
Mine has been broken much more than usable, over 6 months spent waiting on parts, last one never showed up.
Found it on Amazon for a few bucks.
Got a few nice prints then the bed heat died, wires were not strain relieved at all, one broke right at the bed heater - not repairable with a good soldering iron. Dissimilar metals involved.
Found a replacement heat pad, now trying to get it glued to the bed plate...
Overall if you have good models and the latest software it is not a bad printer. Unless you got a dud.

Good Luck.

Scramjet
