You don't drill anything, you remove the existing z-rod, and replace it with whichever you are going to use. It's a ton easier with a metric threaded rod then it is with a standard. You use a coupler to go from the existing motor to the new z-rod. put it all back together change the firmware in printer settings inside of repetier and make sure to save the changes and your done.

Hi guys,

A couple of months ago I've found a topic here about replacing the Z rod. Now as the parts have arrived, I can't find it. Could you please help me with instructions on how to get rid of Z wobble?

I would like to use an M3 rod with a new motor. What should I do when replacing the 5/16" rod?
Also, what settings should I change in the firmware to get the best result? I've seen some methods, telling me I should use 0.3xx mm layer height instead of 0.3 mm. What's the math behind it?

Thanks!
