if there is water in the filament you can also dry it out by putting it in a oven at the lowest setting and it let is bake for a hour.

Moisture in pla makes it swell up more as it prints if you do have a lot of moisture in the filament you can usually hear it "pop" as its printing.

Yes different colors will some times need to print at diff temps. I tend to find if you do a test extrusion and find where the filament stops extruding and then bring the temp back up about 10 to 15 degrees works pretty good for dialing it in. you may still need to adjust it in small increments after that.

If you don't have a wiper printed you can use a clothes pen and some paper towels to do the same thing just fold up the paper towels add the oil to it and then feed the filament through they eye with the paper towels press lightly around the filament so that it transfers a light coating.

Levelling won't fix the poor extrusion you're getting. It really only affects the first layer.
I'm wondering if your filament has taken on some moisture.
I had a similar problem recently. Several of my spools were printing really poorly.
I put them in the cupboard beside our hot water tank overnight (30°C) and they printed great the next day.

thanks for the reply there are a few tips ive not heard of before..
Im new to 3d printing so still learning.

I only print at a slightly higher temp as the filament make BQ say its best between 200 and 220.
Only got this because there was no bad reviews on amazon.

Do you know what make is best on these printers?

so on the veg oil tip i dont have a wiper or anything so should i slightly coat the filament before loading? then continue after that while it feeds?

I did clean the nozzle and re-load some white filament which appears to have worked.
when i then did a test print late last night the layers were too far apart so i will re-level and try again later.
But it was laying down filament on each layer at least.

i know it turned out crap but its a step further

out of interest do different colours have different melting points?

I think your nozzle is to close and that is keeping the first layer from laying down correctly.
at this point you may have a partly blocked nozzle. Try manually pushing in the filament and then letting it cool so say 180 and pulling it back out then clip out the melted tip of the filament do that a few times. then check you gap between the nozzle and the level bed again. do the manual bed leveling the auto level is crap!

Also you might be a bit high on temp when printing pla. most times for pla I print at 195 to 205.

Don't forget adding a little bit of canola/veg oil to the filament when printing with pla helps a lot in keeping the filament from sticking in the hot end. when I print PLA I have it go through a wiper that has the vegi oil on it. that helps a lot on PLA

With the tape to make it help stick make sure you clean it first with alcohol (it removes the waxie surface), also using aqua net hair spray works wonders in getting pla to stick.
