Yes, there are many designs tried with various methods. I have a design as well that I am looking for others to evaluate, suggest or even develop further if it is a viable design.

The Splicer design is mentioned in the group "3D Think Tank" on the http://3dprintboard.com/ website. The site is devoted to helping others in their design, process or creative efforts.

There are actually quite a few products that do this. I shared a link for a splicer some time ago...I don't recall the name, but the company was based out of Spain and sold out for the longest time. Anywho...
Let's not take anything away from kronik's project. There are many ways this can be done, and these hasn't been much discussion on splicers/fusers.
