Thats reasonable I just ordered a resetter tool that should allow me to use 3rd party filaments without the fear of incompatible temps.

Linkhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/131394592808 there. hopefully this is fine as I am still on 1.0.3 and have had no problems.

It is really a matter of preference. You do gain a lot of control with repetier and can use a variety of slicers. For a long time I used XYZ Zerocart to be my "resetter" and to control temps. It worked pretty well but I was also using Simplify3D which helped a lot. A cart resetter is simple enough. If you have warranty left and don't want to void anything then stick with stock. I would recommend Simplify3D although it is costly ($150).

Repetier is free but you take some risks. I personally like the better control over the printer. I have also since upgraded the hot end to an E3DV6.

Just be aware, if you chose to flash your 1.0A like me you cannot go back to stock firmware.

Personally if you are new to 3D printing I would stick with stock for a bit until you get a feel for your printer then make your move.

Hello brave new world,
I am happy and about to run out of my natural abs that came with my 1.0a printer. I know nothing about repetier but I know a little about modding devices. I am a quick study. But I have a newbie question I have read there are tools that can reset the counters on the cartridge as well as bed temp and extruder temp. are these preferable to installing repetier or should I Bite the bullet learn gcode and how to use slicer?
