The yellow thermistor wire is now replaced with a red one. The black thermistor wire is still stock but also wired direct to the main board.

I'm running repetier with an E3D so the pcb is now redundant.
I left the 6 pin connector on for now and tucked it back out of the way.

Didn't take that long actually, maybe an hour or so.
All working perfectly again.
As an added bonus, I got rid of the little pcb while I was at it so one less thing to go wrong.
The thermistor is now wired directly to the main board.
Looks much tidier now.

Ever since this happened back in August, I've been having trouble with the extruder temp readings on the lcd. It reads ok for a few days then drops to around 3°C at room temp or I get the def error.
The thermistor is good, reading around 100k on a multimeter at ambient temp, and the heater cartridge is heating up but the lcd is now stuck at 3°C.
On opening up the back of the printer, it's clear the short I had in August caused major damage to the yellow wire which connects the thermistor to the board. The sleeving is melted in several places and the bare wire looks pretty done for.
So I'm now facing replacing the yellow wire from the board all the way to the thermistor.

The problem with mine was that the cables were poorly located and rubbing on the metal parts of the extruder casing which must have worn down the coating.
I've added another cable tie and secured the cabling away from anything that's likely to cause this to happen again.

Thought my Davinci was toast this afternoon.
While printing, I saw a flash coming from the extruder then the power cut out followed by a puff of smoke.
Fortunatley, I was close by and immediatley pulled the plug out the socket.
After letting it cool down and inspecting the extruder, I noticed one of the heater cables had worn through to the bare wire in one spot.
This must have touched a metal part of the extruder causing a short.
Luckily, the printer is ok and after strapping up the worn cable with some electrical tape, I'm printing again just fine. Phew !
So lesson learned, check your cables now and again guys !
