All too true. 

I used to be one of those that kept a spreadsheet with the brands and settings.  Eventually tossed it out the window and now I do just about the same as Carl,  run a calibration print and adjust accordingly for each roll.

Has anyone had any abs filament that didn't flow as quickly as others? I have a new roll of octave abs and it doesn't do small areas or supports very well because it seems like it doesn't flow very well. How did you adapt your slic3r to this?

It is normal to have to make temperature changes and other tweaks per roll. This goes for the same brand and even the same color.

The normal at least for me process is any time I change rolls, I print a calibration cube or other object of known dimensions. That way I can see how it flows, what it's shrinkage factor is and other parameters. Then I make the necessary tweaks for that roll and print. Increase the extrusion multiplier (Filament Settings), or increase extrusion temperature, or better yet, a combination of the two.
