The stock firmware for one is supplying too much current to the motors. This is making them noisy and more prone to failure. Once you flash you may be in the same room and forget the printer is running. Flashing also allows you to use third party filament as well. You can also make changes to the firmware to better fine tune performance and accuracy.

I am new to 3D printing and three days ago I made the plunge and bought a DaVinci 1.0a to support my hobby of Robotics. I use CAD CAM for design and manufacturing at work so 3D Printing in theory is not new to me. However from what I can see xyzWare is useless and from what I have been reading, this printer's capability can be vastly improved by either flashing and going with Repetier and your favor CAD package or by using Slic3r with your favor CAD package as an alternative to xyzWare. If I understand correctly what I am reading, Simplify3D will work with the DaVinci 1.0a. So my question to the community is why flash? if you can gain better control of your printer with Simplify. Is there something here I just don't see? I would appreciate any help from the community
Thanks
Hector
