Ok, so this is weird, bizarre even, I place my meter leads to the output pins on the board with bed heater off: I get what I expected 0v across the pins and a 12V potential between each pin & ground. Next I turned bed heater on in RH. and I measure again. - Guess what? I get 12V across the pins and my bed is heating! I don't see any difference in RH or my board but I'm up & running again, the best I can figure is a loose connection, But i'm still going to upgrade, I'm just glad I have a working board again.

Rumba is a very viable alternative - I have one running my #1 SD4 and I do like it.

If you are interested in the Rumba and in the USA, try makerfarm.com - that is where I got mine from. you would have to order stepper drivers to go with it - recommend 4988's for X, Y, & Z, but get an 8825 for E - it is nice and your E3D will work so much better with it!

Thanks for that, I'll be willing to buy a rumba at this point, but i'm just not sure what vendor I should use and what would be the best options. The only thing I would add is the auto leveling, I would keep everything else as is. My other option is to switch to PLA but I bought a bunch of ABS and would hate to waste it.

in all honesty, ramps is going to be your cheapest, and easiest, option.

They are pretty easy to hook up, & easy to flash (easier than the Printrboard SD uses) There are other vendors out there if you are set on having another Printrboard - a google search should turn up several

Well as some of you may know It looks like I lost the bed heater on my SD4. I tracked the problem to the motherboard so I'm pretty sure I'll need a new one soon. I want to keep the upgrade as simple as possible, but I really can't afford the $200.00 price tag SD wants for a replacement. I've read about the ramps but, I'm very happy with my current set up and ramps is overkill for me. I really want a one for one replacement with a simple software flash. any suggestions are welcome.
