I got the XTC-3D package the other day, and gave it a quick try on a test piece.

First thing I have to say is, that, while this doesn't smell bad or anything, it will give you headaches, so this is definitely one of those things that needs to be done outside or with good ventilation. It's pretty toxic.

Anyway, it's some form of epoxy, it comes in two bottles and is mixed at a 2:1 ratio. Even though they claim 2-4 hour curing time, you really only have about 10 minutes to apply it while the coating is still a fluid liquid and self leveling. It will take some learning to get it right to where it's thick enough to fill in small gaps and the striations between layers, yet thin enough not to obliterate small details or run.

But it does do what the manufacturer claims, it smooths out the surface enough to allow only minor sanding in places and give you a decent paintable surface. Or you can simply leave it natural color.

I will try to do another piece and post the results (and photos) later.
