This is quite astonishing and you deserve much praise for the quality of your work and the hours of dedication spent on achieving this level of result. As to the camera blind spots: these can happen even when using stereo structured light scanners. The only way I can see which would eliminate them is a tilting turntable. Well done, pirvan!

As some of you may have already seen, I've been pretty active on the Atlas 3D Scanner forum. Ever since I got the scanner, I've beeen trying to learn and imporove the quality of my scans.

I've also come to the realization that turntable laser scanning (at least as it's currently implement on the simpler scanners) has it's limitations. One of those limitations is that the camera and laser can't "see" certain areas of a model.

That leaves large gaps without any data that need to be filled in. The reconstruction algorithms in MeshLab can do a pretty credible job at guessing some of it, but inevitably you'll need to manually fix and/or reconstruct some parts.

To that end I tried the Z Brush function in MeshLab, but found it to be restrictive. MeshMixer on the other hand has sculpting tools analogous to real sculpting. After a few hours of trial and error, I'm beginning to get the hang of it.

Here is one of my latest scans. A caricature statuette of a soccer referee. The original point cloud was about 30MB, the resulting mesh reconstruction was 62MB, and the fixed and re-sculpted mesh was 81MB and about 1.6M polygons. The simplified mesh posted here is <5MB and "only" 100K polygons.

Enjoy.

P.S. Please don't repost this model on other sites. This is going to be a SoliForum exclusive.
