for the E3D - any version - follow the instructions to the letter! And Yes, that does mean making changes to and flashing firmware.

for ABS - definitely Octave. I also like Hatchbox Gold - I have some samples of other Hatchbox colors, but haven't tried them yet, but Have heard good things about them

Re ABS brands, if you're in the USA then users here highly recommend 'Octave' branded filament (on Amazon) as consistent and good value for money.

Elsewhere in the world, you might have to tell us where you are in case we can recommend local suppliers (US sources often are expensive shipping internationally, if they do at all...).

You should consider following E3d's assembly instructions which require an upgrade of your firmware. That will have you change the max temp settings and thermistor type. Also check out the WIKI's firmware and E3d sections.

Is there a way for me to bypass the auto shut off on my solidoodle 3 when it hits 215C? I will be using the e3d v6 and wanted to try out colorfabb xt and would have to print it at temps closer to 250C. Should I even try colorfabb xt or just stick with abs? Also, any suggestions for brands of abs that are great quality?
