I made some test/learning yesterday and had the same result. For one , I began at 5 then 10, 15, 20 and finally ended at 25.
25 was good only for the right laser. The light came from the window on the left side, so at 25, light + laser were too much on the left. It's a test and try process, each model if different.

For dual LR scan, light need to be equal on both side, threshold is for both laser and even if it was separate, lower lightning give darker image (I didn't look what difference it made on STL).
I'll have to change place/orientation of my scan.

With integrated/adjustable led lightning, it could be easier to manage threshold to get a good scan.
For regular photography, lighting is a key, so to scan.

Nice trick with talc. I'll buy/try some anti-glare makeup (if I find one not too expensive).

Here is the importance of adjusting the laser threshold setting. I have direct overhead fluorescent lighting which is too much, so I used a canopy cover to cut down the lighting. Below are samples of the different threshold settings.

The first one was done with the threshold set @ 2. As you can see, the scan is so noisy, it totally unusable.

This one is taken with the threshold @ 10. Still very noisy, but you can at least make up the model underneath.

This one is done with the threshold @ 20. Still has some noise, but most of it will be eliminated after the final merge and in post clean up.

BTW, a lot of noise also comes from reflections, so to cut down on that, I used some baby powder that I applied with a large makeup brush I borrowed from the wife.
